Friday Night Thunder & National Championships
hopes begin this Saturday with ‘twice’ the fun and excitment
SAN BERNARDINO (April 23, 2008) – After an exciting
and emotional kick off to the 2008 Race Season at Orange Show Speedway,
emotions action will continue to run high with dreams of a national
championship on the minds of drivers of the BSR West Super Late Models
as they compete in a set of Twin 50-Lap Main Events. The “Double
Points/Double Purse” for the BSR West Super Late Models will mark
the largest total purse for weekly divisional race in OSS history. The
second opening night will also include Pro 4, Factory four and visit
from the always fun to watch Stock Car USA. It was also be OSS T-Shirt
night with free OSS Schedule Ts to the first 500 fans thru the gate
this Saturday. Jam Sportswear, official clothing provider at OSS, Race
Radio and Pirate City Tattoo are sponsoring Saturday’s T-Shirt
Promotion.
With the announcement by INEX officials that National Championship scoring
will include additional races in 2008, Orange Show Speedway officials
created ‘Friday Night Thunder’ which will be an additional
series of races for those competing for INEX National Championship Points.
Coordinating with Friday night practices at the historic ¼ mile
oval, drivers will race a non-purse race that evening that will count
toward their INEX points. The race will not provide any points for those
competing in the Leno’s Rico Taco Legends at OSS.
“We hope this brings out some new blood to the track that
are looking for additional races within INEX. In the past, drivers feared
her (OSS), or spoke badly of her. The only way we can change drivers
opinions of the track is to get them here to see what we’ve been
able to accomplish. This is a fantastic place to race and we invite
drivers to see for themselves,” said Joe Ganino, Director
of Motorsports at OSS.
Earlier in the year, ASA President Dennis Huth made the announcement
that the feature division at all ASA sanctioned tracks will compete,
in addition to track championships, in the first ever short track national
championship. “As an American Speed Association sanctioned
track, we are excited to be part of the “first ever” ASA
Member Track National Championship.” - Joe Ganino
The winner will receive a prize even bigger than the bragging rights
- The Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil Champion's Award and a chance to test
behind the wheel of a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.
John Manke, 2007 OSS Super Late Model Champion, will join past champions
like Glenn Cummings, Frankie Gould, Dave Scheidecker and Mark Shackelford
in making their mark on a national level with the 15 scheduled points
nights. Ganino and Director of Competition Gary Stockman worked feverously
to create a schedule that would not only accommodate the drivers, but
also provide them an opportunity to be recognized on a national level;
“Gary (Stockman) and I were a little concerned with our schedule,
but after consulting Dennis Huth at ASA, we were able to create a win-win
for everyone involved. I continue in my appreciation for all of Dennis’
hard work and the benefits to our drivers. I am happy to say that I
am a proud member of the ASA Short Track program.”
The goal of the ASA Short Track National Championship is to activate
a measuring system that takes into account many variables, such as field
size, inversion, wins and number of races in a season, and create a
level playing field to determine who is the ‘best-of-the-best’
of the ASA Member Track Champions Nationwide.
The ASA Short Track National Championship is another step by the industry
leader in creating new and innovative programs. The new ASA National
Championship follows closely ASA's recent move to extend additional
insurance coverage for ASA Racing members traveling to, from, and during
an ASA-sanctioned event.
Joe Gibbs Driven is the proud sponsor of the ASA National Member Track
Champion Award where the National Champion wins a test session with
