White turns in dominating performance in winning NOS Foundation 100 at Orange Show Speedway

SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 7, 2007) – Linny White turned the NOS Foundation 100 into his personal showcase Saturday night at Orange Show Speedway, turning the quickest lap in qualifying and leading the 100-lap Super Late Model race from start to finish.

White, 29, of Fontana , collected the $1,500 winner’s share of the purse for the open competition race by outlasting Ramona’s John Manke and Highland ’s Glen Cummings, the past two class champions, in a race slowed by five cautions.

White, who started his Chevrolet Monte Carlo on the outside of the front row in the 18-car field, took the lead from Charles Price at the start and kept the number 55 in the first-place spot on the new Lucas Oil-funded electronic scoreboard overlooking Turns 1 and 2.

White got some pressure early from Rick Chavez. But Price took second from Chavez before the one-third mark and with the help of caution flags was able to stay close enough to be a concern until lap 91, when he got spun by a slower car. That gave second to Cummings, the defending track champion, who yielded the position to 2005 champion Manke with five laps to go.

Chavez was running a strong third until lap 79, when he suddenly slowed with mechanical problems and left the track.

It was the third win in six starts for White on the ASA-sanctioned quarter-mile at the National Orange Show Events Center . He has two seconds and a third in the other races.

Randy Becker Jr., of Highland , won the slam-bang, 30-lap main event in a Pro 4 class dominated by Eddie Secord, who had won nine of the previous 11 races. Secord finished only eighth, but still took the class points lead with two races to go due to the absence of former leader Rex Lockwood.

Spencer Samaro, 18, of San Bernardino , clinched his second championship in three years in the 30-lap Aflac Factory Fours main event. Samaro, who won the Sport Truck title in 2005, finished second to Hemet ’s Martin Huizenga in the race, then picked up the win when Huizenga’s Nissan pickup was disqualified in the post-race inspection.

Dean Caskey, the defending Mini StocKar champion, moved within four points of leader Mike O’Hara with one race to go by capturing the 20-lap main event over O’Hara. Tony Forfa IV, 9, of Redlands, inherited the Jr. Mini StocKar win and the class points lead when Benjamin Mahan, 12, of Hesperia, was disqualified after what would have been his sixth win in as many races this season and his 14th in a row overall.

In addition to the disqualifications of Huizenga and Mahan, Super Late Model driver Dave Scheidecker was fined $50 when one of his crew members violated speedway Rule 6-1.3.1, which addresses profanity directed toward an Orange Show Speedway official or fellow competitor.
