Two Stock Pony drivers given fines, probation
SAN BERNARDINO (Aug. 1, 2007) –
Drivers Jim Mardis and Jim Edmiston have been fined and placed on probation
by Orange Show Speedway for their actions at the conclusion of the Stock
Pony main event Saturday, July 28.
“The majority of our drivers are out
here for the sheer love of the sport,” Director of Racing Joe
Ganino Jr. said. “The unnecessary actions and reckless natures
of a few drivers are depriving many of the competitors of their opportunity
to race on a regular basis. Due to the reckless nature of a few, many
of our drivers are losing their ability to race on a regular basis,
and that hurts all of us.
“Orange Show Speedway does not condone
poor sportsmanship.”
Mardis and Edmiston both were fined $100 under Rule
6-1.3.3, which sets forth the penalties for “intentional car-to-car
contact with another competitor under caution or after the completion
of an event.” Mardis was fined an additional $50 under Rule 1-12.1,
which governs rough driving.
Mardis, the defending class champion, and Edmiston,
the 2005 champion and current points leader, also have been placed on
probation for the remainder of the racing season.
That season continues this Saturday, Aug. 4, with
the Lucas Oil ASA Modifieds headlining a program that includes the Hype
Manufacturing Super Late Models, ASA Pro 4s, Aflac Factory Fours and
Stock Cars USA, plus an appearance by members of the OC RollerGirls
roller derby team.
Also, as a reminder, the recently-announced ban on
smoking in the Orange Show Speedway grandstands will go into effect
Saturday.
Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and racing gets under
way at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62 and
over), handicapped and juniors (13-16) and $2 for children (6-12). Active
military personnel and veterans with valid military identification are
admitted free of charge. Parking is $4 per car with entry through Gate
3 off Mill Street .
