Super Late Models will be feeling charitable Saturday night at Orange Show Speedway

SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 3, 2007) – The Hype Manufacturing Super Late Model drivers will take a week off from chasing points to do some charitable work Saturday night at Orange Show Speedway.

An open competition, 100-lap main event, the NOS Foundation 100, will be the centerpiece for a night of racing that includes the ASA Pro 4s, Aflac Factory Fours and Mini and Jr. Mini StocKars.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and racing gets under way at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62 and over), handicapped and juniors (13-16) and $2 for children (6-12). Active military personnel and veterans with valid military identification are admitted free of charge. Parking is $4 per car with entry through Gate 3 off Mill Street .

Those unable to make it to the speedway still can follow the action with “Orange Show Speedway Live,” the radio broadcast on KTTD (AM 1350) that begins at 8 p.m. and is simulcast on the Internet at www.nixacountry.com.

The proceeds from Saturday night’s racing will go to the National Orange Show Foundation to help fund its various community youth programs. The race is being held in conjunction with the Foundation’s primary fund-raiser, “Food and Wine under the Stars.” That event, an annual showcase for the region’s wineries and restaurants, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the NOS Events Center .

The proceeds from a race purse that could top $8,000, depending on the number of entries, will go toward the enrichment of the competitors. The winner of the NOS Foundation 100 will take home $1,500, second gets $1,000, third is worth $750 and every starter is guaranteed $200. That should be enough money to attract a large and talented field of drivers to the ASA-sanctioned quarter-mile oval.

There should be plenty of time for drivers and crews to get their cars working well, too, with an open practice Friday night (Oct. 5) in addition to the usual practice sessions that preceded qualifying and racing on Saturday. Friday’s practice is free to those with a paid entry to the NOS Foundation 100 and open to everyone else for the customary $30 fee.

In the 11 Super Late Model events run at the speedway this season there have been seven different winners. Linny White, Rick Chavez, Glen Cummings and John Manke have two wins apiece. Travis Stockman got his first main event win May 19, and in the past two races Rob Kiemele and Charles Price have visited Victory Circle . Eight others have posted top five finishes. So the NOS Foundation 100 should be an extremely competitive affair.

The other classes that will be in action Saturday night will be racing for points, and at least three of the championships still are undecided.

The ASA Pro 4 class leader is Rex Lockwood, an engineer from Victorville. He has two wins in 11 starts and is 22 points ahead of Eddie Secord. But Secord, who missed the second race of the season due to mechanical problems and fell 48 points behind, has won nine times and still could overtake Lockwood should the leader have a bad race in the final three outings.

Spencer Samaro emerged from last week’s Aflac Factory Fours race 60 points ahead of Tony Dumont with just Saturday’s race and the Nov. 3 finale remaining. But leader Mike O’Hara and defending champion Dean Caskey are separated by just six points with two races to go for the Mini StocKar class and defending champion Benjamin Mahan has a 10-point advantage with two to go in the Jr. Mini StocKar class.

Racing at Orange Show Speedway is sponsored by Lucas Oil, Blackhawk Protection, Hype Manufacturing, Del Taco, Aflac Insurance, KTTD radio (AM 1350), Leno’s Rico Taco, Soboba Casino, Budweiser, Hoosier Racing Tires, Frank’s Radio Service, Torco Racing Fuels, Parker Pumper/BSR West, Eibach Springs, JP Striping, Star Auto Parts, Pepsi, Matich Corporation, L. Curti Truck and Equipment, One Stop Landscape Supply, Extreme Exhibits & Logistics, Little Green Onions and the San Bernardino County Sun.
