OSS providing more ‘presents’ this holiday season with 2008 Schedule and staff assignments

SAN BERNARDINO, CA (Dec. 19, 2007) – Sticking to his mantra of creating a fun, fair and affordable place for families, businesses and racers, new staff assignments and the 2008 schedule look to keep the momentum.

The 2008 Race Season will kick off April 19th and run till November 1st in a 22-race schedule. The season will feature double point races throughout the year for all divisions as well as the return of the NOS Foundation and Toys for Tots Charity races. 2008 will also see the return of the Lucas Oil ASA Modifieds, Stock Car USA, West Coast Pro Trucks and ASA Speed Truck Challenge, which will highlight OSS’ Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Show on July 5th.

“The reduction in the schedule from 2007 was to create an affordable season for drivers and fans. Everyone enjoys full fields of cars and packed grandstands. We just want to do what is right for everyone. With mixing in some variations with the point races and bringing in a variety of competition, we can continue to bring everyone the excitement their looking for when spending their hard earned dollars.”

Orange Show Speedway spent its first 20+ years racing on the dirt with such names as Pankratz, Savage, Vuckovich, F1 World Champion Phil Hill and more racing on the original dirt oval. Paying tribute to OSS as it enters it’s 61st year of racing, Joe Ganino is bringing back open wheel racing to the speedway with the Jr. Ford Focus Midgets to help promote youth racing here in Southern California. With the Orange Show Quarter Midget Racing Association finding a home at OSS in 2007, Mr. Ganino felt it was a perfect progression in providing talented young racers on the West Coast options in progressing as drivers;

“In racing’s upper echelons, there are many talented driver from California, including two just in NASCAR. We want to make sure that our young racers get the opportunities that anyone else would. The only way they can do that is by their performance on the track and we’re honored to give them that chance.”

Mr. Ganino making reference to two time and present NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson (El Cajon, CA native) and 3 time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday Jr. (Palmdale, CA native).

One of the new and exciting interactive additions to the speedway in 2008 will be the introduction of The Racing School. The Racing School will give fans the opportunity to get behind the wheel of an authentic Nextel Cup Car as well as the ability to compete in your own Saturday Night Feature race against other students. The Racing School President Mark Ebert and Mr. Ganino both are excited about partnership with the speedway and the chance to, as The Racing School say, “Fulfill dreams…. One lap at a time.” For more information about The Racing School, fans can call 877-CAN-RACE or visit the website for information at www.theracingschool.com. Other promotional information and dates as they relate to the schedule will be made available at a later date in time.

Gary Stockman and the team of officials too are making changes to streamline the race day for the drivers. A Saturday Night at OSS would not be complete unless it’s true ‘staple,’ starter Jerry Burhop was in the flagstand getting the nights action underway with the drop of the green flag. Burhop will join Director of Competition, Gary Stockman upstairs and lend his expertise as Race Control in 2008. Along those lines of creating better communications between drivers and officials, Mr. Stockman also announced that Gary Camp will bring his knowledge as former Tech Director at recently closed El Cajon Speedway to serve in that same capacity at OSS. Brian Hooper has agreed to take on the role of Pit Steward to serve a communication point in the pits between drivers, teams and officials on race nights. In addition, John Pope will be taking on a new role and responsibilities as Safety Director to help maintain a safe environment for competitors on race night.

OSS Race Director Gary Stockman reminds all drivers, owners and teams with race-related questions that they can email him directly at OSSRaceDirector@aol.com with any questions or suggestions.

Drivers, Racers and Fans are encouraged to keep abreast will all the updates and exciting news during the off season by checking out www.nosevents.com and keep an eye on the speedway page for more information.
