Coolers permitted, smoking restricted at Orange Show Speedway

SAN BERNARDINO (July 4, 2007) – Coolers are in again at Orange Show Speedway. The ban on hand-held ice chests has been lifted and beginning with the July 14 races spectators will be able to bring their own refreshments to the track.

Director of motorsports Joe Ganino Jr. said the decision to permit coolers was made in response to spectator comments and is one of two measures being introduced immediately to enhance the public’s enjoyment of an evening of short track stock car racing.

The second measure is a ban on smoking in the North grandstand that will go into effect on Saturday, Aug. 4.

“Obviously, the biggest concern our fans have is how much it costs to bring the family to Orange Show Speedway,” Ganino said. “We’re hoping that by allowing them to bring small coolers we can help make an evening at the track more affordable. And the creation of a smoke-free seating area probably is overdue.

“It’s no secret that second-hand smoke is extremely harmful, and we really shouldn’t expect people to put their health in danger to watch a night of racing. Smoke-free seating erases a lot of that fear and creates a much healthier and more enjoyable environment

“We’re extremely thankful for our fans and we want to do everything possible to make sure they enjoy their experience so much they’ll look forward to spending all of their Saturday nights at Orange Show Speedway.”

The coolers are limited in size to those that will hold a 12-pack of beverages. Alcoholic beverages and glass containers are strictly prohibited, and the coolers will be subject to examination by speedway security personnel.

The smoking restriction will create a smoke-free environment for spectators in the North grandstand, which is the grandstand closest to the parking area and main entry gates. However, smoking still will be permitted in the patio and midway concession areas, the South grandstand and the pits.

There is no racing at Orange Show Speedway this weekend (July 6-8). The next event is July 14, when the Lucas Oil Outlaw Figure 8s, BSR West Late Models, ASA Stock Ponys and Leno’s Rico Taco Legends Cars are joined by the ASA Speed Truck Challenge series and the first 500 spectators will receive free caps courtesy of Lucas Oil Products.

The Figure 8 regulars will be using the next race to fine-tune their vehicles for July 28, when there’s a $1,500 payoff awaiting the main event winner.

Orange Show Speedway spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and racing gets under way at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62 and over), handicapped and Juniors (13-16) and $2 for children (6-12). Active military personnel and veterans with valid military identification are admitted free of charge. Parking is $4 per car with entry through Gate 3 off Mill Street .

Those unable to make it to the speedway still can follow the action with “Orange Show Speedway Live,” the radio broadcast on KTTD (AM 1350) that begins at 8 p.m. and is simulcast on the Internet at www.nixacountry.com.

Racing at Orange Show Speedway is sponsored by Lucas Oil, Blackhawk Protection, Hype Manufacturing, Del Taco, Aflac Insurance, KTTD radio (AM 1350), Leno’s Rico Taco, Soboba Casino, Budweiser, Hoosier Racing Tires, Frank’s Radio Service, Torco Racing Fuels, Parker Pumper/BSR West, Eibach Springs, JP Striping, Center Chevrolet, Pepsi, Matich Coporation, L.
