Burnout, two 100-lap Open Comp races on
tap, Factory Four driver fined, suspended at OSS
SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 13, 2007) –
There’s no stock car racing at Orange Show Speedway this weekend.
Instead, the ASA-sanctioned quarter-mile oval will be the site of the
Lucas Oil Route 66 Burnout presented by The Press-Enterprise, an annual
highlight of the famed Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous.
That event will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission
is $6, with children 10 and under free, and $1 of each paid admission
will be donated to the San Bernardino Boys and Girls Club. Spectator
parking will be through Gate 8 off Arrowhead Avenue or in the dirt lot
across the street.
The week off for stock car racing doesn’t mean
a week off for Orange Show Speedway officials, though. In fact, Director
of Racing Joe Ganino Jr., Competition Director Mike Scheidecker and
Race Director Brian Hooper have been busier than usual planning the
two 100-lap main events that will highlight the final six weeks of the
season.
The first of those, the $6,400 Toys for Tots 100
Late Model race, is scheduled for Sept. 22. The track’s BSR West
Late Model points battle will be put on hold that night for a race that
is open to anyone with a Late Model stock car and $100 for the entry
fee. The entry fee includes a Sept. 21 practice session from 6 to 9
p.m. that is open to other classes as well, for a $30 fee.
To make the 100-lap Late Model race possible the
scheduled Lucas Oil Outlaw Figure 8 race has been cancelled. But the
ASA Stock Ponys, Leon’s Rico Taco Legends Cars and Bandoleros
remain on the schedule. It also will be Family Night and children 12
and under will be admitted free with a paying adult.
The second 100-lap race, an Open Competition event
for Super Late Models that was tentatively announced last week, will
be run Oct. 6. As is the case with the Late Models, no Hype Manufacturing
Super Late Model points will be at stake during the NOS Foundation 100.
The purse for that event has not been finalized, but a portion of the
proceeds from ticket sales will go to the National Orange Show Foundation
for its work with at-risk children and health care in San Bernardino
and adjacent communities.
The ASA Pro 4s, Aflac Factory Fours and Mini and
Jr. Mini StocKars also are on the Oct. 6 schedule.
One Factory Four driver will be a reluctant spectator
that night, however.
Jeff Imbriani, of San Bernardino , has been fined
$200 and given a two-race suspension for his part in an on-track altercation
with Tony Dumont during the Factory Four main event on Saturday, Sept.
8.
Imbriani, who is sixth in the standings, was found
to be in violation of Orange Show Speedway Rules 1-12.1 and 6-1.3.3.
Rule 1-12.1 addresses rough driving and Rule 6-1.3.3 deals with profanity,
discourteous gestures and behavior deemed detrimental to the betterment
of the sport.
Imbriani will have to sit out the races of Sept.
29 and Oct. 6, but will be eligible to participate in the season finale
Nov. 3.
